Wow…What a great day. It’s an interesting life we have here at Customikes. We get to do a lot of cool stuff and get to go to a lot of cool shows.
We all have day jobs and most have families and clubs we belong to. Customikes falls into the first category so we all try to jump in when we can. Well this is one I’m glad I chose this year.

Now I’m not known for my writing skills so bare with me. I’m sure if I keep it up, I will maybe get better. I keep saying the same thing about my welding too. LOL. We were invited to shoot this show by a gentlemen named Augie Bettencourt. Augie knows friends of friends as the car world goes… He got in touch with Mike and Mike asked me and Scotto if we wanted to shoot it. Of course we said SURE!
San Jose Country Club 5th Annual Concourse d’ Elegance It is kept a relatively exclusive, was sold out and its held at the San Jose Country Club on the golf course. It’s an amazing show to photograph. The setting is perfect to look at cars and to take pictures. The weather was perfect this year. Not to hot. Not a lot of wind. One of the only shows that I’ve been too where you weren’t dusting your car off every few hours. One other great thing about this show is the variety of cars that come out. Everything from Fiat to Chevy, McLaren to Ford. Stock, modified, you name it, and one of the friendliest shows I’ve been to also. Enthusiasts just wanting to chat, either about their Porsche or their hot rod Lincoln.
Now for me one of the best features of this show besides the fact that the cars all look great out on the golf course, is, included in the entry fee is free-flowing Champaign, water, Hors d’oeuvre on the lawn and a BBQ dinner that was fantastic at the end of the night. Man I’ve spent twice as much at shows eating junk corn dogs… This was a class act.
At around 4:00 PM they announced the two winners of the show. A point I like about this show is the winners are picked by the attendees. Each registered attendee gets a voting slip and we got to pick the cars. Next year they may open up other classes, but this year they did Best of Show and Best Porsche. The Best Porsche is a Marquee award, so they invite a club out to bring in a number of cars. This year was a Porsche club. I can see this being a number of different clubs/styles in years to come. This is still a young show and I think it will morph over time, so I see more categories coming.
This year’s Big Winners were Sam Samaniego for the Porsche category It was a 100% restored 1963, 356SC. It had a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche. It was picked by the crowed and was absolutely gorgeous and deserved the recognition.
The Best of Show went to a well deserved 1956 Chevy Bel Air owned by Carl Gillihans. This Beautiful red and black was done at CS Restoration in San Jose California. With a 530hp ZZ383 V-8, it was just as much go as it was show…The attention to detail on that car was amazing.
After the awards were given out we were invited down to the club dining level were we are treated to ribs, chicken, salads, desert and a killer band, just to put us in a food coma for the ride home. All around one of the best small shows I’ve been a part of, just for the chill factor. I really want to thank John Vest and Augie for having us out. It was a great time and I’m already looking forward to becoming a regular for this one…And check out Customikes Dream Team Members John and Scotto‘s extensive Photo Galleries below for a better look at this great show… Cheers Johnny
