This is no restauration story, it\u00b4s the story about getting the only known 1954 Lincoln 4door Sedan in Germany<\/strong><\/p>\n

As some of you read at my first blogpost, I sold my Volksrodproject in 2013 to buy an american classic car.A few days after I sold it, I found a 1954 Lincoln. The car looked very nice and I haven\u00b4t seen one like that before, so I decided to take a look at the car. I phoned the owner for a meeting at the next Sunday. At this time the Lincoln was standing in the showroom of an Opel dealer, near Osnabr\u00fcck\/Germany. \u00a0 Why I was a little bit to early at the dealer, I took the chance to take a first look to the Lincoln. Half an hour later a small old man arrived with a big folder under his arm, but without the keys for the car. He told me that he gave the keys to the Opel dealer, but on Sunday they are closed and no one could give him the keys. That\u00b4s why I got no chance to look inside the Lincoln and won\u00b4t hear the engine running. For me this was no handicap to talk about the price and make the deal. The following Friday I drove, together with my wife, to Osnabr\u00fcck to drive the Lincoln home\u2026.on his own wheels and not on a trailer. It was a horrorable drive with a damaged battery and no working breaks at a red light but I arrived at home safe.<\/p>\n

The brakes were vented, white wall rings were installed and I mounted the Moon caps to visit the first shows and meetings. The folder I told you at the beginning was a part of the car and inside of the folder there were some old bills, prospects of the car, the last US insurance and the original warranty card from 1954.<\/p>\n

From the warranty card I got the information that the Licoln was sold in 1954 by Medford Motors in Oregon to a women with the name Vetabelle Phillips Carter. Nice to know that there is something that is called the internet \ud83d\ude09 , so I started to google the Name Vetabelle Phillips Carter and I was surprised that I found something special.<\/p>\n

Vetabelle Phillips Carter lived from 1889 \u2013 1978 and grew up in Ashland\/Oregon on a ranch owned by her grandparents. She studied magisterium at the \u201cUniversity of Washington\u201d in Seattle. After that she taught in an indian reserve. In the 1920 Vetabelle, her husband Fred and their daughter Paulena moved to San Francisco. After a few weeks Mrs. Carter noticed that there is a lot of traffic in San Francisco and a lot of accidents happened so she thought that something must change. After a few thoughts she carved her ideas into some potatoes and shoved them her husband when he came back to home in the evening. It was a traffic light, like the one we know today, but it was made with three geometric parts, to use it for color blind people, too. The potatoes got into prototypes and then into the patent.<\/p>\n

Until today you can see her \u201cilluminated Stop Signs\u201d still in use at the Cable Cars in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

In 1954 Fred, her husband died and Vetabelle and her daughter Paulena moved back to Oregon onto her parents ranch. On her 65th<\/sup> birthday she bought her first own car at Medford Motors, a 1954 Lincoln Capri 4door Sedan. She drove the Lincoln until she was not able to drive a car. Her daughter Paulena got the car for the next few years to drive to her concerts, because she was a concert pianist. A few years later Paulena moved to Redondo Beach \/ California and sold the Lincoln to a car dealer, where she bought a station wagon. Mr. Arthur Akridge bought the car and drove it until 1990. He sold the car to Mr.Jezovcsek from Germany who came to America to buy some classic cars for himself and a friend. The friend was Mr. Th\u00f6rner who got in love with the Lincoln by the first view. After a short restoration, or better say a new paint job with some repair, the Lincoln was back on the streets. From 1991 till 2008 Mr.Th\u00f6rner drove to some classic car shows and his vacation with the good old Lincoln. Since 2008 the Lincoln was only used a few times with a dealers license plate. In 2013 he had some health problems and thought time has come to sell the Lincoln. That was my chance to buy it.<\/p>\n

Mit dem Foto habe ich den Lincoln im Netz gefunden<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

mehr oder weniger heile zuhause angekommen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Wie einige von euch schon in meinem ersten Blogpost mitbekommen haben,habe ich ja 2013 mein Volksrodprojekt verkauft um mir einen US- Klassiker kaufen zu k\u00f6nnen. Wie es der Zufall wollte fand ich schon nach wenigen Tagen im Internet einen Lincoln von 1954.Der Lincoln gefiel mir von der Form her ganz gut und ich beschlo\u00df, mir den Wagen vor Ort anzusehen.Ich verabredete mich mit dem Besitzer an dem darauf folgenden Sonntag, da ich dort eh in der Gegend zu tun hatte.Der Lincoln stand zu dem Zeitpunkt noch in einem Opel Autohaus in der N\u00e4he von Osnabr\u00fcck. Da ich schon etwas fr\u00fcher da war, konnte ich mir den Wagen schon etwas genauer anschauen, bevor der Besitzer kam. Zur verabredeten Zeit kam dann ein kleiner alter Mann ins Autohaus mit einen dicken Ordner unter dem Arm, aber ohne Schl\u00fcssel f\u00fcr das Auto.So konnte ich den Lincoln nur von aussen begutachten und leider auch nicht laufen h\u00f6ren. Trotzdem wurde der Preis verhandelt und man sich einig.Den darauf folgenden Freitag machte ich mich nach der Arbeit auf den Weg um den Lincoln abzuholen, nicht auf dem Anh\u00e4nger sondern mit roter Nummer auf eigener Achse.Nach einem \u201cH\u00f6llenritt\u201d mit kaputter Batterie und versagenden Bremsen an einer roten Ampel, kam ich aber noch heile zuhause an.<\/p>\n

so ging es dann zu den ersten Veranstaltungen in der n\u00e4heren Umgebung.Den am Anfang erw\u00e4hnten Ordner gab es \u00fcbrigens dazu und dort waren viel interessante Informationen \u00fcber das Auto drin abgeheftet.Angefangen bei alten Prospekten \u00fcber alte Rechnungen,\u00a0 Anmeldung der letzten US Zulassung bis hin zur orginalen Garantie Karte von 1954.<\/p>\n

Aus der gigng hervor das der Lincoln am 1.September bei Medford Motors in Oregon an eine Frau Namens Vetabelle Phillips Carter verkauft wurde. Wie sch\u00f6n das es heute das Internet gibt, denn ich fing an mal den Namen Vetabelle Phillips Carter zu googlen und war erstaunt was ich alles fand.<\/p>\n

Vetabelle Phillips Carter lebte von 1889 \u2013 1978.Sie wuchs in Ashland\/Oregon auf der Ranch ihrer Gro\u00dfeltern auf, studierte Lehramt an der \u201cUniversit\u00e4t of Washington\u201d in Seattle. Danach unterichtete sie sogar f\u00fcr einige Zeit in einem Indiander Reservat.In den 1920er Jahren zogen Vetabelle und ihr Mann Fred mit ihrer Tochter Paulena nach San Francisco.<\/p>\n

Dort fiel ihr nach einiger Zeit das hohe Verkehrsaufkommen und die hohen Unfallzahlen auf und so fing Mrs. Carter an sich Gedanken \u00fcber das Thema zu machen. Sie \u00fcberlegte was man ver\u00e4ndern k\u00f6nnte um die hohe Zahl der Unf\u00e4lle zu minimieren.Nach einiger Zeit kam ihr unter anderem die Idee eine Sicherheitsbeleuchtung zu schaffen, die unserer heutigen Ampel entspricht, nur mit dem Unterschied das die damalige Ampel auch f\u00fcr farbenblinde Verkehrsteilnehmer geeignet sein sollte.So begann Vetabelle ihre ersten Gedanken in eine Kartoffel zu schnitzen, um sie dann abends ihrem Mann zu pr\u00e4sentieren.Auf diesem Wege wurden dann mit der Zeit die ersten Prototypen gebaut und sp\u00e4ter zum Patent angemeldet. Heute noch werden ihre \u201cilluminated Stop Signs\u201d bei den Cable Cars in San Francisco verwendet. 1954 starb ihr Mann Fred und Vetabelle zog es mit ihrer Tochter zur\u00fcck nach Oregon auf die elterliche Ranch.Zu ihrem 65ten Geburtstag kaufte sie sich dann bei Medford Motors ihr erstes Auto, einen 1954er Lincoln Capri 4door Sedan.Diesen Wagen fuhr sie, bis sie selber nicht mehr Auto fahren konnte und vermachte ihn dann ihrer Tochter Paulena.Paulena, war inzischen eine Konzert Pianistin und fuhr den Wagen auch weitere Jahre, bis sie nach Redondo Beach in Kalifornien umzog und dort beim Kauf eines Kombis den Lincoln in Zahlung gab.Dort erwarb dann Arthur Akridge den Wagen und fuhr ihn bis 1990.In dem Jahr kam Herr Jezovcsek nach Amerika um f\u00fcr sich und einen Freund einige Fahrzeuge zu kaufen und diese dann nach Deutschland zu verschiffen und f\u00fcr sich zu restaurieren.Besagter Freund war Herr Th\u00f6rner der sich sofort in den Lincoln verliebte als er in Deutschland ankam und nach etwas \u00dcberzeugungsarbeit Herrn Jezovcek dazu brachte mit ihm zusammen den Lincoln zu restaurieren und schnell wieder zur\u00fcck auf die Stra\u00dfe zu bringen.Was folgte war dann eher eine Instandsetzung\/Reparatur mit neuer Lackierung. So konnten dann von 1991-2008 diverse Classic Car Veranstltungen und Urlaubsziele mit dem Lincoln angefahren werden.Nach 2008 fuhr Herr Th\u00f6rner den Wagen dann nur noch sporadisch mit Werkstatt-Kennzeichen, bis er 2013 sich dazu durchringen konnte den Lincoln endlich schweren Herzens, aus gesundheitlichen Gr\u00fcnden, an mich zu verkaufen.<\/p>\n
